Ardea herodias

If it hasn't croaked, must be good odds on the Scillies Great Blue Heron turning up on the mainland?

Damned bird. It was always the one first for Britain I would have been confident in claiming on Scilly and now some bugger's beaten me to it!
Bet the weekends chequebook birders are pretty pissed off though.

I bet it's lurking on one of the other islands, or in a bay somewhere round the coast of St Mary's. I'd also bet none of the chequebook birders bothered looking for it anywhere other than Lower Moors at the weekend!

Reports I had were that no-one had looked anywhere else. Not too many could get on due to the weather and even less got off again!
It was reported that the bird was not seen to feed on the Friday and left the roost not long after going in. Possibly snuffed it?
