Macro Five

This January is unprecedented for me / my garden! Last night I had another couple of moths to lit windows - one was another Winter Moth, the other was this ....

Early Moth

I've never had five species in January - let alone five macros. To cap it all I've had another Early Moth on a window this evening.

Last year I had only one trap session in Jan and caught 4 moths of 2 sp ( December Moth 3, Chestnut 1) This year I'm on 6 moths of 6 sp including 2 I didnt get at all in 2010. Cant be bad...

Last year I didn't record a single moth in the garden until 4th March, and had only picked up 5 macro species by the end of March!

In fact, prior to this year these are the only January garden records I have - all of singles and all at lit windows / domestic lighting other that the monodactyla which came to MV light.

06-Jan-2002 Winter Moth
13-Jan-2002 Winter Moth
26-Jan-2003 Emmelina monodactyla
27-Jan-2003 Pale Brindled Beauty
01-Jan-2004 Agonopterix heracliana
22-Jan-2006 Early Moth

Hehe, the race is on, although you will overtake me when your garden gets better during spring, as I have no garden!

6 species so far!
