Before Shell Suits Went Birding

A post title that's sure to mean nothing to anyone who never saw the photo of LRG Ego out twitching in his highly flammable best. Long before that though, such garb was being badly worn in 80s music videos, like this one:

Great 80's Pop from Scritti Politti - absoloutely shite video and even worse clubbing clobber

I've been listening to a fair bit of old 80s pop whilst driving up and the M5 this weekend - all good stuff from my youth.

Great song, better clothing of the day, pretention levels at max power

Dreadful tache .....

The last time I saw Lee he was wearing a bat wing 'big knit' cream cardigan. Arguably not much better than a shell suit top. Still, it suited his hair and crucifix earring.....

Blimey Skev, this has got the nostalgia meter running... I bored a car load of twitchers senseless by insisting that they listen to the whole of 'Songs to Remember' by Scritti Politti. before Simple Minds became a stadium band I saw them twice at the Lyceum in London, when tracks such as 'I Travel' and 'The American' proved them to be bloody good. As for Ultravox, they mean nothing to me... (geddit?)

I bet they were bloody good gigs Steve. I was still a schoolboy when I managed to see Simple Minds on the New Gold Dream tour at the Leicester De Montfort Hall (12/12/1982, supported by China Crisis!). That was the watershed album that was the last great thing they did I reckon. They were still playing the older stuff on that tour - Love Song and Sweat in Bullet were the encore I seem to recall.

Ultravox - so mystic and soulful ....
